thanks for your comments everyone!

It's strange how things seem to pop up in life. This weekend I was reading the Toronto Star (Can's biggest paper) and saw a bunch of letters to the ed that basically says "hey immigrants you're in Canada now, be happy and grateful." I'm going to be writing a follow up soon, but in case you're interested in seeing the article that inspired those letters check out: http://www.thestar.com/article/471514

Alex,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and work with us. One of the beauties of photography is that it is a way of encapsulating presents and realities. Then, since theater is ephemeral, your pictures are now permanent testimonies of the four characters’ stories in The TAXI Project.

Best regards,
Mayahuel Tecozautla

You are in Canada now you should be grateful...
I was told the same thing in America. Honestly that change my attitude but do we have to accept the fact that the same aliens that came before us have to run the show all the time and all along is injecting the belief that caucasians are the highest form of humanity ?
Thank you for stepping forward and i like reading your blog really. It helps me accept the fact that I cannot change.

It baffles me that I once had that same mentality that immigrants should be happy and grateful to be here. It never occurred to me that our government could be the very reason why people are forced to leave their homeland, that our way of living and consumeristic lifestyle is the very cause of grief and strife in many countries around the world. I guess I was aware of the latter part but I didn't know that it was related to immigration to that extent. I never viewed Canada as a country of exploitation but after hearing recent news, I am greatly saddened that I was so misinformed.
But still, I am thankful for the many opportunities that this country has given me. I am thankful for the security and freedom that I have, and for that, I am very grateful to be living here. However, I may not be so quick next time to call myself a proud Canadian.
